Reading camps for teachers
Objectives of the reading camps
Do you teach English or any other subject at the elementary or secondary cycle one level? Are you an education consultant, a school principal, a librarian or a documentation technician? Are young people's reading difficulties an issue of concern to you? Would you like to learn about the tools that will enable you to help them develop lifelong reading habits? Would you like to spend some time in a pleasant setting and exchange ideas with your peers, create projects, meet resource persons from the literary world, talk to authors and experience what literature is all about?
Each year, school staff are invited to participate in summer reading camps. Staff from all the school boards in each region will have an opportunity to attend these reading camps over the three years of the action plan.
The objectives of the reading camps are to help participants:
- have memorable experiences centred on books and reading
- become more familiar with the existing resources with respect to both literary and everyday writing
- explore works of fiction and documentary resources
- plan projects that involve using the school library
- become aware of activities related to books and reading
- participate in workshops given by specialists
- create projects that can be transferred to schools
