Mission of the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport
Under its founding legislation, the Ministère de l'Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport is responsible for developing and proposing policies to the Québec government in the areas of preschool, elementary and secondary education, college education, university education and research (with the exception of educational activities that fall under another ministry) and recreation and sports. These policies are developed for the following purposes:
- to promote education, recreation and sports
- to promote, develop and support the Québec population’s level of knowledge, culture and occupational skills and increase participation in recreational and sports activities
- to promote access to the highest forms of learning and culture for anyone with the desire and aptitude for such pursuits
- to help harmonize its orientations and activities with government policy as a whole, taking into account economic, social and cultural needs
