Public and Private Schools
Four levels of education are provided by institutions in the public and private school systems:
- Elementary education (which includes preschool) and secondary include:
- school boards, the definitive territories of which were announced in 1997 (French only)
- private educational institutions (French only)
MELS allocates basic and additional funding to the school boards; the grant criteria are set out in the budgetary rules. (French only)

- CEGEPs (collèges d'enseignement général et professionnel) (French only)
- private educational institutions (colleges, institutes, conservatories)
