Culture-education agreement
The agreement
Within the school setting, culture is a focal point of convergence, preoccupation and intense activity. It is therefore not surprising that a whole network of partners is working very hard to enhance the cultural aspect of our schools.
Over a decade ago, support programs for culture as well as reference and promotional tools, such as Arts and Culture Week in Québec Schools, were first developed. They complement the Québec Education Program and are part of the culture-education action plan, on which the memorandum of understanding between the Ministère de l’Éducation, du Loisir et du Sport (MELS) and the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications (MCC) is based.
Subject of the agreement
The purpose of the culture-education agreement is to strengthen the existing partnership between the two government departments and their respective spheres of influence in order to generate, stimulate and develop adapted and innovative collaborative actions in education and culture in a way that takes into account local, regional and provincial realities.
Target areas
The target areas are the same at all education levels:
- the arts, both in terms of exposure to the arts and arts education
- history and heritage
- science and technology
- information and communications technologies
Each year, the MELS and the MCC publish information documents and electronic forms for the programs and measures related to the agreement for use by the schools. These publications are available in this section of the MELS Web site devoted to the dynamics and components of the culture-education action plan, or on the site of the Ministère de la Culture et des Communications through the hyperlinks.
