2009 Cultural Activities Month at School
During February 2009, which has been designated Cultural Activities Month at School, teachers and students are invited to focus on the cultural content in students’ learning.
The theme for the first edition of Cultural Activities Month at School is “Tell me who your hero is.” This theme encourages both introspection and the expression of dreams, feelings of admiration and the desire to emulate, to do as much as or even more than the heroes who inspire us. The theme also provides an opportunity for teachers, students and resource persons from the cultural milieu to discuss figures who have influenced their lives.
All arts education, science, language, social science and personal development teachers will find material to be explored that will pique the curiosity of elementary and secondary students, stimulate their creativity and allow them to participate in a cultural experience.
In order to promote Cultural Activities Month at School, the Ministère has designed some tools and made available resources to support teachers in their role as “cultural mediators.”1
- This term is borrowed from Jean-Michel Zakhartchouk, L’enseignant, un passeur culturel (Paris: ESF, 1999).
